Industry overview
The Montenegrin banking sector saw major changes in 2007, and there was a sharp rise in demand for banking products from both retail and business customers. Although just four banks accounted for some 80 % of the Montenegrin market in 2007, there was significant intensification of competition, with a wider range of products to choose from, as more participants entered the market. The leasing market once again expanded rapidly compared with the previous year, with leasing noticeably increasing in importance in tourism, agriculture and the infrastructure.
