Slovenia
Industry overview
There were a total of 21 financial institutions operating in Slovenia’s highly concentrated banking sector in 2007. Total assets of all banks together amounted to EUR 42.0 bn, of which 71 % was represented by the seven largest banks. During the year there were numerous privatisations, mergers and management buyouts: Nova Kreditna Banka in Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest bank, headed the list of the businesses that were privatised. The well established leasing market continued to expand, and registered high rates of growth especially in vehicle and real estate leasing. In Slovenia leasing now accounts for 30 % of all financing. The large leasing companies are majority-owned by banks.
